Spring? Or Time To Quit Your Job?

FEELING RESTLESS?  IS IT JUST SPRING?

OR IS IT TIME TO QUIT YOUR JOB?

Is it just Spring or is it time to quit your job for a better one? Spring is a time for new growth and new beginnings. We all look forward to Spring, Are you feeling restless at work? Yes, we all have hard days at work and feel like we’re spinning our wheels but how do you really know if this is just an off day or what you need is growth or a new “beginning”?

Leonard Schlesinger

Co-author of “Just Start: Take Action, Embrace Uncertainty, Create the Future says, “I find a lot of people paralyzed by their unhappiness with their current reality”.

Daniel Gulati

Co-author of “Passion & Purpose: Stories from the Best and Brightest Young Business Leaders says “Most people stay too long in bad jobs because the corporate world is geared towards keeping us in roles, not matching up people with their ideal roles”.

Maybe this is a big deal. You think they aren’t talking about you, aren’t you? You ‘re not an entrepreneur out there wanting to change the world, you’re just a person with a decent job who is trying to have a life.

How can you decide it is time for you to quit or move on. When do you decide  this is the time? It could be that restlessness or slight dissatisfaction because it’s spring and you need some time in the sun or it could be something bigger going on.

Some of the signs to watch for are:

– You are looking at job boards and telling yourself you could do better but you never quite click that link.

– You look around your department and don’t see any positions you want to move up into.

– You know you could be doing a better job than you are doing but no one seems to notice it’s not your best and you are getting by. Does it matter if you’re unmotivated if you are the only one who notices?

– You see your peers moving on and up to better positions and think why that wasn’t me? Why wasn’t I chosen?

If any of this sounds authentic – you’ve got a decision to make. Real job dissatisfaction and loss of opportunity takes an emotional toll on you whether you admit it or not. Is the cost of staying where you are really worth the price?

This is what a candidate recently said to me. “I’d forgotten what it was like to get up and look forward to coming to work. Changing jobs made such a huge difference – like day and night. I didn’t realize how much I needed this move until I made it.”

Think about it. It’s almost Spring and it might be time to quit your job.
